My parents, ando, and I were invited on a family road trip to the ancient city of Turkistan. For Islams, going to this city 3 times is the equivalent of the one required trip to Mecca. We went with my director, her family, and the family of the young girl who had just recently married into her family. We all piled into a bus for the 8 hour journey west. Dig it. My mom saved the day when she produced her "emergency outhouse flashlight" to help with the tire repair efforts (we got a flat in the middle of the night and of course had no visibility or tire jack) We then stayed in a traditional Kazakh Yurt...all 20 of us. Notice that ando and i had to share the tiniest blanket and it was freezing. The next morning we went to the Mosque to complete some wedding ceremonies for the newly weds. I of course forgot my traditional hat and had to suffice with that backwards D cap to cover my head (go tigs) or to tell ando that he needed one so he went with his rasta beenie. My mom also had some trouble with her scarf and had my host mom attending to keeping it fixed right. There was a well which has a tradition of telling whether souls are good or evil in whether or not you are successful in filling the pail with water. (i was too nervous to try, see football post below) My dad did nicely and got a solid fill - good work pops. Thats it for now...more to come when i recieve pics from my folks.
