Thats what they told us at our orientation in Washington DC on the first day of our Peace Corps experience. A few weeks ago, that came just a little bit closer to being true. A fellow PCV Greg Yandl, formerly known as "The Yandimal", was recently betrothed to a local woman Tatiyana. The wedding was exactly one year to the day from when he first asked her out via a lymmerick on Valentines Day 2008 (which i had to the good fortune to witness - which as some of you may know, nothing really makes me happier than love born of lymmericks). The wedding was beautiful, and because Greg (an Adam Morrison fan) 's family couldnt make it a bunch of us volunteers got to be his cats during all the pre ceremony festivities - which is menoga (alot) for Russian weddings. There is the initial phase of the groom proving himself to the family of the bride. This included a scavenger hunt, walking on the walls, Greg having to pick his future wife's baby picture out of about 20 others, drawing a picture of her blindfolded, knowing her shoe size, among many others. My man Greg dominated this portion of the competition (read: wedding ceremony). Then there was driving around in decorated cars (see above pic of me and the groom's best man Joe, doing our part and attaching hearts to the cars), taking pictures at war memorials, releasing doves, then the legal signing of documents, then to the resteraunt for food and toasts...and more toasts. Everyone at the wedding takes a turn toasting the bride and groom - which makes for a long process, but manageable because of the abundance of food in front of you, and only the wedding party has to stand and really pay attention. All in all, killer nuptials.

"At least 4 of you will get married"
