The Dentist
I went to the dentist in Almaty to get my tooth fixed and was not really sure what was going to happen. I have pretty much had the same dentist since i was born, who also happened to be my next door neighbor (when i moved back to michigan i would drive 2.5 hours to my appointments with Dr. Grasso) so i was not pleased about whoever this new Kazakhstani dentist thinks he might be. It ended up being this woman who only spoke russian, worst. As she was explaining the procedure the only part i understood was "anesthesia ne nada" which means does not need anesthesia...hold on. Get Viktor on the phone, so i call my medical officer to translate and he just says lay down and smile. I trust this man and it happened. 20 minutes later i was out the door. It was actually a rad experience because i got to be chauferred around in one of the vehicles by a driver with the diplomatic plates and i thought i was going to be able to crash in the volunteer lounge - Which has a killer VHS collection including but not limited to NFC championship 2005 and a complete TGIF lineup. This slumber party got vetoed however and i was shipped home on an 8 hour bus ride. Hooray Peace Corps.
